The Heart of the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail
Stay for a weekend or join us in calling Wilton home
ABOUT WILTON
A village in Western Wisconsin’s Driftless Area, settled along the banks of the Kickapoo River.
Wilton grew with the turn of the 20th century along the tracks of the Chicago and North Western Railway. This agricultural community was enhanced by the thriving poultry business, Tillman Produce. The rail lines, abandoned in the 1960’s were, in short order, transformed into the first rails-to-trails bike path in the United States.
Forward thinking Wiltonians developed a village park, campground and pool for residents and trail riders. Today Wilton is still considered an agricultural community but residents make their living in diverse ways with trucking, home-based businesses and employment opportunities in surrounding communities providing income for residents.

FIRST RAIL-TO-TRAIL IN THE U.S.

The Elroy-Sparta State Trail remains one of the most popular trails in the country. With three rock tunnels and five small towns along its 32.5-mile route, the trail is a favorite Wisconsin bicycling destination. Wilton is located in the "heart" of the trail, passing by wetlands, prairies, farmland and unglaciated areas.
EASY ACCESS TO THE BIKE TRAIL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The Village of Wilton Campground has the best camping facilities in the area. With easy access to the bike trail and recreational opportunities for the whole family. Come see one of the amazing bike trail tunnels – just a short ride from the campground. The village has a beautiful tree-filled public campground.
